Stephenie and Hona....the Moxie Twins! These two fabulous cuties cooked up this idea awhile ago to dress up as the moxie twins for halloween.  I'm guessing it was the crazy matching "moxie blue" corduroy jumpsuits we had in the vintage section that inspired that decision.  I was not at work Friday when they debuted their outfits but Courtney told me that a couple of customers asked them if that was the moxie uniform.  Oh my, could you just imagine if I required that from everyone.  I wouldn't have much of a staff left.  "Oh Courtney....don't forget to wear your jumpsuit tomorrow!"

 

This photo turned out a little blurry but I wanted you to see the full outfit.  They made belts and scarves out of some purchased leopard fabric and I'm loving their matching heart socks and over the top accessories.  Our definition of moxie is: courage combined with inventiveness and I think Steph and Hona really captured that spirit.  

I just love working with spirited people who like to have fun.  I've said it before but it is worth saying again....I've got the greatest team in the world.  Oh and girls.....I'm hoping to see some matching elf outfits for the Holiday Open House!

super cute vintage sheet dress

Back in early september we sold a vintage sheet to Beccie from Australia on etsy.  In her notes to the seller she told us about how excited she was about receiving the sheet because she planned on making a dress with it.  Well, her excitement was contagious and I asked her to send a picture when she finished with the project.  I love seeing what our shop friends do with all of the pieces and parts they source from us.

 It makes me happy to know that I rescued this unopened and unused  sheet from a dusty old linen closet....

and that sheet could go on to become a super cute dress made by a super nice gal named Beccie in Australia.  I love my job!!

According to Beccie's blog, she has only been sewing less than a year.  Amazing!  I wish I could sew.  Previous attempts to learn have failed but I might give it another go if I can squeeze some time in for private tutoring....Add that to the list of other things I'm trying to learn more about.... photography, photoshop, graphic arts, cooking, zumba, and the list goes on! I am always inspired by creativity.  Seeing beautifully handmade items and art really gets me in the mood to try my hand at making things but sadly,  I'm just not that good at making things. The short attention span and inability to process directions might have something to do with it.  Or maybe it's the fact that I can't stay in any one place for very long without drifting off into some magical dreamscape scenario in which I'm digging for treasures in old houses and long closed up warehouses full of  mint condition clothing or textiles.  I am good at finding pieces and parts though!  And that job does require me to constantly be on the move and is like having a different job every day.  No day looking for junk/treasures is the same day twice.  So ultimately, I have landed in the job that is best for me, but I sure do admire those of you who can take the things I find and turn them into other works of art.

Vintage Goodness

I do not know if these cameras work or could ever work again, but I do know that they make for cool decor. 

This child sized Hazel Atlas vintage space theme mug is perfect for the sci-fi lover.

The frame is Victorian as is the etched metal vase.  The scotty dog is probably from the 40s or 50s.

Oh my goodness....I have been shopping up a storm.  Just got back yesterday from a visit with friends in Minneapolis and like usual they indulged us in a tour of estate sales.  So much fun!!!  Found lots of divine vintage Christmas along with cute clothes, fabrics and knick knacks.  I will be bringing new stuff in a couple of times a week from now until infinity.   Yes, I've got enough goods in storage to keep the shop full for eternity. I'll try to keep taking lots of photos.  You tell me you like to see the goods (especially my out-of-towners) and I'm happy to do it for you all. Looks like we are going to have some beautiful weather here in Northern Illinois this week.  Perfect for a drive to DeKalb.  Come see us....we'd love that!
