Happy Tuesday everyone.  Just wanted to quickly let you know about a really fun event I'm participating in.  It is the first annual Smock Sisters Sale.  It is being held in rural Sycamore in a lovely country setting.  The Smock Sisters are a small group of women who are united in their love of vintage, art, sewing, painting, crafts, jewelry making etc. 

The sale is being held on Saturday October 24th and Sunday October 25th.  Both days from 9 to 5.  The sale will be indoors so no need to worry about weather ruining the event.  

I will post more details and photos next week.  Hope you'll plan on dropping by the sale and please tell your friends about it too!

Ladies Night Out......Friday

Hi friends.  Just a quick reminder that tomorrow night (9-25) we will be participating in the 2nd annual "Eat Dessert First" Ladies Night Out.  

The event is from 5 to 9 pm in downtown DeKalb.  Many of the shops will be participating and offering desserts and in store specials for your shopping enjoyment!!  Last years event was a really big hit.  

The idea is to gather up a group of pals (yes you can bring your man-folk too) and enjoy noshing on some sweet treats while shopping.  We all know shopping when done properly can really work up an appetite.....so please visit one of the fine restaurants downtown when you are done shopping.  There is something extra fun about shopping at night.  The downtown looks so festive when the sun goes down but the shop windows are shining brightly.  It's magical.  Trust me.

From 5 to 9 pm tomorrow we will be offering something chocolatey  plus 10% off of everything in both MMHG and Moxie.    Oh and, I've been shopping up a storm lately....so you really need to stop in to see the new stuff.  A big shipment of super cute purses just arrived along with clothing, books, jewelry and scarves.  If vintage is your thing.....you must pop over to moxie to see the vintage shoe window.  So many shoes....so little time.

Hope you can make it.  The party won't be the same without you.  You know it won't.  Really!

We'll Be Open Late For Cornfest!

It's that Cornfest time of year again. 

Free corn for everybody!  Well maybe not everybody, but free corn for those smart enough to get in line at the corn boil.  According to an article I just read in the DeKalb Chronicle, 18,000 ears of corn will be given away this weekend.  That's mighty generous of Cornfest and all the volunteers that work hard to make this free event happen every year. 

This year Cornfest will again be located west of downtown at the Airport.  There are free shuttles available to take visitors from the festival to downtown or the craft show which is now back at Clinton Rosette Middle School.

• FREE SHUTTLE BUS  

Friday Hours - 2:30pm to approx 11:30pm

Saturday - 9:30am to approx 11:30pm

Sunday - 9:30am to approx 6:30pm

Shuttle Bus Route Details:

Bus to begin at west side (bus turnaround) of Holmes Student Center, stop at corner of 2nd and Lincoln (Eduardo's), left onto 7th and then a right onto Pleasant.  Passenger stop at 11th and Pleasant (stop sign); continuing out to fest and stopping at the shuttle bus drop off at Corn Fest.

For the return, leave airport, west on Pleasant (unloading at 11th) to 7th.  North on 7th, continue onto Hillcrest, left onto First, then into main drive at Clinton Rosette;  South on First, unloading on first at Lincoln Hwy, then return to Holmes Student Center.

Both Megan Morrison Home and Garden and Moxie will be open late on Friday and Saturday.

Our Cornfest weekend hours are:

Friday 10 to 7

Saturday 10 to 7

Sunday 11 to 4

Of course if we have full stores at 7 pm we might be persuaded to stay open a bit later than that.  

Both shops are completely full of great new items that won't break the budget.  I spent most of July off at gift shows and my team and I have spent the last 4 weeks opening box after box of my latest finds.  This is a great time of year to stop in and see what's new.  Oh and for our Halloween loving friends....the Halloween is out at MMHG.  And for my fashion loving friends.....adorable clothing and accessories arriving daily at Moxie.

Don't forget to use the parking lot across from the Egyptian Theater.  You can park there and then come right in the back door of Megan Morrison Home and Garden.  After visiting MMHG you simply go out the front door and you are smack dab in the middle of Downtown DeKalb.  Moxie is right across the street and there are lots of restaurants and other fun shops to visit too.

That's right, it's "Hollydays"  this weekend.  Please join us for our 9th annual Holiday Open House on Saturday Nov. 22nd 10 to 5 and Sunday Nov 23rd 10 to 4.

All of us moxie and mmhg elves have been super busy shopping, decorating, and baking in anticipation of this super fun weekend.  Elf megan has even spun a few new cds.  So get ready to fire up your holiday shimmey and shake! 

Everything in both moxie and megan morrison will be 10% off for these two days only.  A perfect time to get going on stocking stuffers, hostess gifts and holiday decor.  Both shops are positively filled to the decked out brim with fabulous and fun items! 

While we're on the subject of parties.....Please mark your calendars for our Moonlight Shopping Party.  It will be Friday Dec. 5th from 6 to 9 pm.  It is truly our most raved about event of the year.  Wine, shrimp, chocolate, girfriends, boyfriends, twinkling lights, holiday music, laughter and good cheer.  It's a magical evening of good times and we hope you and your friends came make it!

Please don't forget our other downtown merchants (and our friends on the west side Glidden Campus Florist) they are having open houses too!  What a great time to come out and shop local!

Sale Tonite Only........ Plus Brownies!!!

Good morning friends.....just a quick reminder that we'd love for you to join all of us fun merchants tonite for "Eat Dessert First" 

Enjoy yummy desserts at the downtown Dekalb shops while enjoying evening shopping hours.  There will be different desserts and discounts available with each participant.

Please note....Megan Morrison Home & Garden and Moxie will close at 5pm and then REOPEN from 6 to 9 pm tonite.  From 6 to 9pm we will have a 10% discount on all purchases in both stores.  The discount does not start until 6 tonite :)

For all of you who have busy days....this is a great opportunity to grab a couple of pals and head out in the evening before or after dinner. 

Well it's 4:59 am right now and guess who's heading out the door to go look for vintage goodies for you all.  Who knows maybe they'll be in store by tonite!

Sales This Weekend

Hey friends.  Just a quick reminder that today, tomorrow and Sunday there will be lots and lots of sidewalk sales in all of downtown dekalb. 

We will be open later both Friday and Saturday nights.  With Cornfest happening out at the airport this makes the parking situation downtown much easier.....so c'mon down to see us and everyone else! 

We of course will be putting out lots of bargains thru out the weekend.  We will put new sale items out each day!!

for me since I couldn't be at the Open House.  She whipped out her cute red camera just moments before the party began and took a few snaps so I could see all of the delicious cookies and snacks that everyone helped make for the party.  Lucky for me, Bob managed to sneak a few treats home for me too.

My lovable cute niece Brooke made these wonderful sugar cookies that they had to keep Uncle Bob away from.  He ate way more than his fair share.  How can an aunt ever repay her niece for such helpfulness?? Hmmmmm ....I know I will come up with something!

Here we have Lisa, Courtney, and Pat.  Can you get any more photogenic?  They were the team over at MMHG for the weekend and I heard that they had tons of fun working together!  You girls look so cute!

Holiday Open House This Weekend !!!

Our 8th annual holiday open house is this weekend, and we hope you can make it.  Saturday 10 to 5 and Sunday 10 to 4.  We've been busy little elves.  Take a look.

The Last Cornfest Downtown ?????

So that's the rumor anyway.  Next year the festival will be held out in a field at the airport, and many people are saying it won't ever come back downtown.  I don't claim to know for sure either way, but if you are nostalgic for the downtown experience then you should definitely come out to enjoy Cornfest this year. 

Come see us at Megan Morrison or Moxie we will be open late on Friday and Saturday night.  We love to see familiar faces and to meet new people too!

I am looking forward to opening up the back door to MMHG and listening to the Beatles tribute band American English on Sunday afternoon.  Good times.
