I always did love a good Dr. Seuss quote. And right now with my big news I'm feeling that the above quote is quite perfect.
Yes friends, Megan Morrison Home and Garden as you've known it for the last 11 years will soon no longer be. We are taking the best of it and moving it in with Moxie our sister store. This decision has been a part of our "big picture" for the last 3 years. It has nothing to do with the economy, or being downtown DeKalb. As a matter of fact, we've always loved being a part of a historic downtown district and would never have it any other way. And we feel so grateful that we've always been a successful independent shop. From day one you welcomed us, shopped with us, told your friends about us, and came back for more year after year. You'll never really know how much that meant to all of us. We know you have choices of where to shop and how you want to spend your money, and we've always been honored that you chose to shop with us. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
Now more about our "Big Picture." After a solid 15 years of 60 to 80 hour work weeks for myself, my sister Courtney and my husband Bob, I've finally come to my senses and decided to schedule in some time for smelling the roses for all of us. My sister and I are classic workaholics and my husband, well he's just got more energy than any one person should. But that being said.....I guess when you reach a certain age(for me it was 40) you start to see things differently. Parents get older, friends get sick, time goes by faster, you get smarter and begin to realize that this journey you're on is not going to last forever. And that realization slapped me in the face one day and knocked me out of my work induced mania. Work is great when you love what you do like I do but so is spending time with friends and family, taking walks along the lake, campfires, biking, shopping for fun, and just general putzing of all sorts.
Moving the best of MMHG into Moxie will make it much easier for me and my trusty right hand man and woman to ratchet it back a little. One building, one staff, one event at a time, one UPS destination, one set of bags, one telephone number, etc. etc. You get the point. Now Courtney and Pat who really ran MMHG will be under the same roof with all the rest of the team. Yea for that ! You as a client won't have to criss cross Rt 38 to visit both shops. It will all be under one roof and that will make it so convenient for you and us. We will have more staff available to assist you when you shop if you need it and Megan and Courtney could even leave the state at the same time without having to perform a minor miracle to do so. After 11 years we feel like we know the lines you love the most and of course we'll be moving those lines to Moxie. But we won't take it all with us and that leads me to the fun part........
THE BIG FAT MOVING SALE .... Sale begins Saturday February 12th at 10 am. We will be closed at MMHG from Feb 1st thru the 11th to prepare for it. I am going to be bringing in lots of vintage stuff from my house, garage, attic, basement, closets and wherever else I've crammed it for the last 10 years. And you know I've got a lot of stuff!!! These are things that have never even been for sale. Pieces, parts, lamps, chandeliers, projects, whoozits and thing-a-ma-bobs. You name it and I might have it. Old tin ceiling, prisms, pictures, mirrors, display stands, old hardware, buttons and trim. Fabric, books, vintage clothing and more. We WILL NOT PRESALE. We want this to be a fair buying opportunity for everyone. When the sale opens at 10 am on the 12th you'll get the same fair chance as everyone else. I might have more stuff to sell than the store can hold so I plan on bringing new stuff in as the sale progresses and as room opens up. I plan on using facebook primarily to post photos and info about the new things I'll add to the sale. If you don't follow us yet please consider doing so as this will be a really great way for you to stay up to date on sale details.
Beginning February 12th at 10 am all new and vintage smalls will be offered at 20% off of the ticketed price. All larger display pieces will be priced with a colored sticker or tag and will be priced with a firm price that will not go down. The sale will last for however long it takes to move my treasures out and the discount will change over the weeks as I see fit.
To cover a few questions that might come up.....
The building is not going to be for sale or rent. I may host special sales in it a couple of times a year after I take some time off :-)
We won't be able to hold or reserve any items that you see in photos. It must be first come first serve in person to keep it fair.
No returns or gift bags once the sale starts.
Yes you can use credit cards or cash.

I really hope you'll all come to our BIG FAT MOVING SALE. There is going to be so much great stuff. You won't be sorry!
I'd be so grateful if you'd help spread the word about this sale. The quicker I can sell it all off the quicker I can take a nap! I've always wanted to know what a nap was like....
